Climbed Up the Mountain High Enough to Be Comfortable

From the NIV:

“You have stayed long enough at this mountain.”
(Deuteronomy 1:6)

Have you ever climbed high enough to see progress, then settled because the view was comfortable? You are no longer where you started, but somewhere along the journey, you stopped moving forward. Spiritually, we can do the same. We overcome certain struggles, develop familiar routines, and become satisfied with how far we have come.

In Deuteronomy, God reminded Israel that it was time to leave Horeb and continue the journey He had placed before them. That mountain had been a place of instruction and preparation, but they were not meant to remain there forever. Likewise, a place where God has taught us can become a place we hesitate to leave. Yesterday’s growth should encourage today’s obedience.

God allows us to rest, and we should receive that rest with gratitude. Yet we must examine whether we are being renewed for the journey or becoming reluctant to continue. Perhaps the next step is forgiving someone, serving beyond familiar surroundings, deepening our prayer life, or using a gift we have kept hidden. Following Christ means remaining willing to respond when He calls us forward.

Thank God for how far He has brought you. Enjoy the view, catch your breath, and listen for His direction. There is still more to learn, more love to demonstrate, and more of your heart to surrender. Let your confidence in His faithfulness give you courage to take the next step.

Something to Ponder!

Have I settled where I feel comfortable, or am I still willing to follow God wherever He leads? 🤔
