REGAINING YOUR IDENTITY FROM THE ENEMY
From the NIV
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)
Sometimes, we begin answering to names God never gave us: worthless, rejected, defeated, unlovable. Through shame, painful experiences, and repeated accusations, the enemy tempts us to see ourselves through our wounds. Before long, we allow what happened to us—or what we have done—to define who we are.
But the enemy has no authority to rewrite what God declares about His children. Our identity in Christ rests on His grace, His saving work, and our relationship with Him. Even when we lose sight of that truth, our Father has not forgotten whose we are.
Regaining our identity begins by bringing the lies we have believed into the light of God’s Word. Where we have sinned, we can repent and receive His forgiveness. Where we have been wounded, we can invite His healing and seek faithful support. We can acknowledge our struggles without making them our permanent names.
We do not reclaim our identity by proving our worth to the enemy. We reclaim it by believing and living in the truth Christ has spoken over us.
Today, we can stop rehearsing every accusation and begin remembering whose we are. We are children of God through faith in Christ. Our past deserves honest attention, but it does not have the final word over our lives. Jesus calls us to follow Him into freedom.
Heart Check: What label have we accepted that contradicts God’s Word? Let us surrender that lie and take one practical step today that reflects our identity in Christ.
