Bible Passage: Matthew 26:39 (NIV)
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Jesus did not hide His pain from the Father. In His agony, He asked for the cup to be taken away. Yet He surrendered His desire to the Father’s will.
When we face trials and tribulations, how do we respond to God? Do we only pray for the pain to stop, or do we also pray for His will to be done?
It is not wrong to ask God for relief. However, sometimes God uses pain and agony to lead us into a deeper level of faith, spiritual maturity, and dependence upon Him. The cup we want removed may become the very instrument God uses to transform us.
Faith does not pretend that the cup is painless. Faith honestly cries, “Father, take this cup away,” while still surrendering, “Yet not my will, but Yours be done.”

Are we willing to trust God’s will even when He does not immediately remove the cup?
